Magazine Deaths Actually DECLINED in 2009

We really can't call it a renaissance, but there is still good news in the report from Folio: that the number of magazines that were shut down in 2009 -- 428 -- is actually less than in 2008 (613), which itself was less than in 2007 (643).

Citing data from MediaFinder.com, Folio: says that where 2009 did fall short was in the number of new launches, with about 60 fewer than in the previous year.

Here's to hoping that in 2010, there will be still fewer shutdowns (your magazines or mine) and many more launches (yours and mine).
